Storing Expressed Milk

When needed, breastmilk can be expressed by hand, manual pump or electric pump. To maintain the integrity of milk, your should NEVER MICROWAVE OR REFREEZE BREASTMILK.

To minimize the loss of important components which can adhere to glass, expressed milk should be stored in sturdy plastic containers or double bags.

BREASTMILK STORAGE GUIDE:

Fresh expressed:

  • Refrigerator
    Up to 48 hrs.
  • Home freezer
    2 wks (store in the back)
    3 mos. (separate freezer unit)
  • Thawed (previously frozen):

  • Refrigerator
    Up to 24 hrs.

  • Any freezer
    DO NOT REFREEZE!
